Fears Brunswick 38 Salmon

The glowing Fears watch.

Hand built in Britain in small batches.

Graceful and complex, the curvaceous Brunswick is an exacting object to create. It takes its inspiration from a gentleman’s cushion case watch in the Fears archives, first made in 1924, and a dial colour used in the 1940s and 50s.

CASE

The Brunswick’s elegant 38mm cushion-shaped case has no flat surfaces, with even the solid caseback having a gentle sweep. The case’s glancing curves are machined from 316L stainless steel in Hong Kong, to a level usually reserved for precious metals. The depth of the polish belies the sophistication of the machinery and the skill of the operator.

The Brunswick is manually wound each day using our bespoke ‘onion’-shaped winding crown, signed with the Fears Cypher. The crown’s fine grooves catch the light, adding a touch of radiance to the edge of the case.

DIAL

The Brunswick Salmon features a Copper Salmon dial, as was used on special Fears watches in the 1940s and 50s. This rich tone is created using galvanic coatings of 18ct rose gold and copper.

Expertly made in Germany, the surface of the dial features a delicate vertical brushing, applied by hand, making each dial unique and allowing it to catch the light in a beautiful, subtle way. This effect is complemented by the concentric circle finishing on the sunken sub-seconds, at 6 o’clock.

The numerals are applied to the dial by hand, after being diamond polished, sand-blasted, and coated in anthracite, to give a warm, grey finish. The numerals are realised in our custom ‘Edwin’ typeface, specially designed for Fears by a horological typographer and inspired by the many different typefaces the company has used throughout its history.

HANDS

The Brunswick features iconic ‘Fears’-shaped hands expertly made in Germany. Skeletonised and finished in blue using physical vapor deposition, the colour of the hands changes from almost black to electric blue in the light.

MOVEMENT

The Brunswick is powered by a Swiss made, manual winding ETA 7001 movement. This accurate movement was first designed in the 1970s, and its reliability has ensured its continuing popularity today. Each movement features blued screws and Côtes de Genève striping.

STRAP

Each Brunswick Salmon is paired with a handmade Bristol Leather strap in Bristol Black. This premium strap uses calf leather that has been vegetable tanned in Britain’s oldest vegetable tannery, Bristol’s Thomas Ware & Sons. Its stainless steel pin buckle is subtly engraved with our ‘Fears’ logo. The Brunswick is designed to fit all of the straps in our range, which you can easily fit yourself without tools.

INDIVIDUALLY NUMBERED

Each watch we make carries a unique serial number. Engraved between the 20mm lugs at 12 o’clock, this number helps us identify your watch and its history.

BRITISH BOX

For decades Fears presented watches in a dark blue box with a cream-coloured lining. We are delighted to continue this tradition today.

The Brunswick Salmon is presented in a bespoke wooden box, which is stained Fears Blue. Lined in genuine cream suede, the watch sits proudly on a special cushion.
